August Wishlist
With one month left of official summer I thought I’d share my wishlist as someone who lives in an eternal summer. Miami will not be cooling down anytime soon which means indulging in the zest of life for a while longer. Enjoy a compilation of purchases I will be making and others that I think I may need a little more time to sit with before pulling the trigger.
First up is this insane matching moment from Baggu. I may have lost the great Bowler bag war of S/S ‘25, but I will leave the summer with these picnic and beach essentials. The picnic blanket has a little carry strap that I assume would be super convenient to not have to throw the sandy blanket in a bag after a beach day and make it easier to carry since you don’t have to try to stuff it under your shoulder while you make the treacherous walk to the car. My only hesitancy with pulling the trigger on the $70 picnic blanket is according to online reviews the ‘puffy’ name leaves a lot to be desired :/
On another note, I have heard only good things about the lunch box. Its size is perfect for, according to some tiktoks, up to 9 cans. At less than $40 it is a steal compared to the $100 Stanley one I keep dropping hints to my boyfriend about. Sigh maybe for our anniversary…or Christmas.
Rounding out the trio is this laptop sleeve. I just need one because the reckless way I throw around purses and book bags like I’m not carrying a $1,600 needs to be studied! To think my parents always said I’d care for stuff more when I had to pay for it on my own…little did they know I’m still learning responsibility.
Since finding out about this bag I have already imagined packing it a million times. I saw this luggage packed once by a seemingly wealthy woman on tiktok and the way she shoved her wardrobe in her (still on hangers!) changed my life. For my next move, which I don’t quite know when, I will absolutely be buying this and adding to my collection. Do I think the bag is life changing? Maybe! For around $570 USD it better be… When I’ve traveled up and down the east coast and on a recent trip to California I couldn’t help but feel how awkward the normal hard case suitcase is. Don’t get me wrong I spent nearly $1,000 on my Monos suitcase set and I don’t regret it i’ve even lent them to friends and they’ve loved the suitcases, but I think one final suitcase will round out my collection and hopefully hold up for the next decade and on. Im trying to buy well and buy once.
Speaking on buying well and buying once, there’s this trend online of having a million devices for every little thing and it repulses me. Why does one need more than one E-Reader or more than one iPad or Laptop. The E-readers really do me in because for me the point of having one aside from a phone or tablet you can read off of is to slow down consumption and waste. Most if not all of them connect to Library Apps if you perhaps have a Kindle and don’t want to continue to support the Amazon corporation. But it seems to me the performativeness of hobbies for social media creates this never ending cycle of consumption for the next big thing. You don’t need the new kindle because it’s pink or green. Or the E-reader thats an old phone because it’s small and portable. Most E-readers are and when people have these large collections and have massive collections of physical books it pains me especially when we’re in one of the biggest waves of anti-intellectualism in this country and libraries and librarians are literally begging people to get a library card at their local libraries.
I’ve had my Kindle Paperwhite since 2022 and 3 years later it works perfectly well. The only thing I’ve upgraded is the case switching my pink fold case for a clear case with a pop socket. In my current case is cutout of a Gucci AD from this months Elle Magazine. I can easily switch out the photo with anything I want easy changing the aesthetic and look of my E-Reader. It fits conveniently in every bag I own and lets me disconnect from social media and plug into any world I choose without the distractions of my phone, which is what it’s supposed to be. I don’t often share what I’m reading or what’s on my TBR because I’ve been on the internet long enough to see how quickly people who share these things often feel like it becomes performative on their part always trying to find the most interesting book to share or share the biggest literary star of the moment. I want to be intentional with what I share and how I share it so I often don’t.
But if you must get an E-Reader the one that I’ve talked myself down from buying is the Kobo Libra Colour. If you get it I feel like you must get the stylus to take notes and underline. The duo is $299.98 and in my opinion it pays for itself when you calculate cost per use. Factor in the convenience of the page turner buttons has me wishing I did more research before buying mine or just waited to buy mine, but c’est la vie!
Last on my wishlist this month aside from a trust fund, an apartment in beacon hill, and a new Taylor Swift album is the Celine Small Leather Trifold. I have a medium sized one and I love it, but rather than satisfying my leather bag crush this coupled with an early summer Longchamp Pouch purchase have made me want an in-between size bag. I have a myriad of large bags and my Longchamp purse fulfills that mini bag need in my wardrobe, but I want something for everyday that fits my keys, wallet, phone, kindle, essential pouches, and travel journal. I think having the bag in a bigger size makes me comfortable with knowing that I will use the bag and that I love the style of bag and it’s something that will live in my wardrobe probably forever. Right now I’m stuck between getting the bag in black or white, but if I find it in a beige/nuetral that will solidify the purchase for me.
For now I’m going to keep on saving and paying off my credit cards, but if we don’t keep our eyes on the prize we can’t win. And ultimately everything that’s meant to be mine will be.
